Desjardins, Dora Maxwell & Louise Herring Recognition Awards

The Missouri Credit Union Association (MCUA) offers an annual award competition to help credit unions gain recognition for the wonderful programs provided to members and the community at-large. Follow the links for more information and entry forms for each award program. If you have questions about which award category to use, check out the Differentiation Chart.  Also, several changes have been made for this year's competitions, so read each description and entry form carefully. Featured activities must have taken place between May 2010 and May 2011 to be considered for any award.

The Desjardins Financial Education Award recognizes leadership within the credit union movement on behalf of financial literacy. This award is named for Alphonse Desjardins, who pioneered youth savings clubs and in-school "banks," known as caisses scolaires.

The Dora Maxwell Social Responsibility Award program honors credit unions for their charitable works in the communities they serve. The award is for external activities. The award is named for Dora Maxwell, an early credit union pioneer who helped organize hundreds of credit unions and worked on behalf of the poor.

The Louise Herring Award for Philosophy in Action recognizes credit unions for internal programs and services that demonstrate their commitment in applying the "People Helping People" philosophy in an extraordinary way. This award is named for Louise McCarren Herring, who was an active supporter, organizer, and champion of credit unions.

Important Note
The state-level Maxwell, Herring and Desjardins Award entry deadline is Friday, July 15. State-level judging takes place during August and MCUA will announce the winners near the end of the month. The first-place winner in each category advances to the national competition. National winners will be recognized at the 2012 CUNA Governmental Affairs Conference in Washington D.C.
